How does Atwater work out my daily targets?
From your stats, activity level and goal. If you add numbers from a fitness tracker, Atwater uses those for your daily burn; if you know your body fat percentage, it uses a formula based on lean mass; otherwise it uses the Mifflin-St Jeor formula. Then it adds or subtracts calories for your goal and sets protein from your weight. Calorie targets never go below 1,200 a day for women or 1,500 for men. You can change any number yourself.
How accurate are the numbers?
Barcodes and nutrition labels are usually the most accurate. Typed foods come from the USDA and Open Food Facts databases. Photos of plates and restaurant items you can’t look up exactly are estimates, and they’re marked “Estimated”. Tap any entry to change its numbers. When you correct a food, Atwater remembers your version next time.
What are the daily limits?
On the Free plan, each day you get:
- 3 photos (plates, labels and package fronts together)
- 10 AI food logs (typing what you ate)
- 1 new restaurant lookup in Dine Out
- 5 custom Dine Out orders
Barcodes, Quick add, Same as yesterday, typing the numbers yourself, and restaurants that are already saved never count. Each use frees up 24 hours after you used it, and the app shows how many you have left. Atwater Pro, coming soon, gives 10 photos, 40 AI logs, 5 new restaurants and 20 custom orders a day.
Are my photos saved?
No. Photos are shrunk, read, and thrown away. Only the numbers you choose to add end up in your log. See the Privacy Policy for details.
How do I keep my log if I get a new phone?
On your current phone, go to Settings → Save your data and enter your email, then the 6-digit code we send you. On the new phone, tap Already have an account? Sign in on the first screen and use the same email.
I didn’t get my sign-in code.
Check your spam or junk folder, and make sure the email address is spelled right. You can ask for a new code after 60 seconds. Still nothing? Email us.
How do I delete my account?
Go to Settings → Delete my account and confirm. Everything in your account is deleted right away. If you haven’t added an email yet, the button appears after Settings → Save your data, or email us and we’ll help. More in the Privacy Policy.
Is Atwater medical advice?
No. Atwater gives estimates to help you keep track. Talk to a doctor or registered dietitian before making big changes to how you eat, especially if you have a medical condition, are pregnant, or have a history of disordered eating.
